This blog is an active part of a much bigger project includes activities, news and initiatives related with ecology and sustainability in the fashion industry. The challenge is to provide more information online. With the aim being that more projects will arise from that, supporting this eco-friendly side of industry.
It is evident that our current fashion industry is going through a difficult phase, due to an uncountable number of situations. The design world needs to adapt to a more ethical production process, as dictated by the modern day consumer. This is easier said than done as the fashion world finds itself in a hard situation. Our synthetic fabrics come from non-renovable row materials (polyester, nylon), and our natural ones use pollutant processes in their treatments. The current sales system based on free-capitalism and globalisation is failing. Therefore all possible avenues need to be examinated in order to develop new partnerships and different ways of showcasing the garments.
Due to the increasing conscience of fashion designers and producers throughout the whole process of a garment (raw materials, manufacturing, selling, garment recycling, etc.), transparency is required. In other words; what kind of treatments have the clothes we buy been subjected to? Who made them? How are they going to reuse the fabric after its usage? All those questions are hard to establish and verify, but increasingly more companies are looking for greater transparency in this field as demanded by their costumers.
The purpose of this blog is to create and feed the consciousness of the Spanish speaking community. With a ball park figure of some 500 million people worldwide, the commercial potential has already caught the attention of some companies.
I really hope you enjoy and contribute with any comment or idea that come up in your head.
